Madari Beauty
The absolute tranquillity and peacefulness, the blend of autumn colours – yellow, red, orange and brown – the white veils of winter, the green ornaments of spring, as well as the gigantic cliff drops called “Teissia”, transformed the top of Madari mountain, into an earthly paradise. It is the ideal setting for taking romantic walks, studying the flora and fauna, mountain climbing, hiking and so much more.
Begin at the upper part of Kyperounda village and take the uphill road toward Lagoudera village. The borders between Nicosia and Limassol are 5 minutes away. A sign will indicate the direction towards Madari mountain top. Another 5 minutes drive, a dead end will be reached where an abandoned military post is present. That is where the walking path begins.
The view is breathtaking. With a clear sky, Nicosia and Limassol can be seen from this mountainous area. The unparalleled tranquillity is overwhelming, and as soon as the “Teissia” (natural cliff drops) appear in sight, one realizes that nature is the most talented sculptor. A path leads around the perimeter of Madari and ends below a fire guardhouse at an altitude of 1493 meters.
While walking along the path, one notices the wild bushes, plants and trees that are abundant in the area. One of them, the ‘Invisible of Madari’, is one of four species that in Cyprus can be found exclusively at Madari.
For those who would like to see the best of Madari mountain top, and still have energy left in them, they should go up to the fire guardhouse. The view will compensate for all the fatigue and effort experienced during the trip. When weather permits and with some luck, you might spot the south coast of Turkey.
Every autumn, Madari’s thousands of vines are visited by numerous admirers who come to participate in the feast of vine harvest by enjoying the delicious grapes that are considered to be the best of Cyprus.
